Local diners, home to the best informed NY Times-polled voters and the bottomless cup of coffee are in danger.
Small restaurants will always have it tough but these days, at least in Canada, seem like they may be even more precarious. Economy in poor shape, uncertainty abroad both thanks to the same sociopath, make going out to eat and food prices more daunting prospects.
We have a new local diner here in Verdun and we just went for a late Saturday brunch. Family run, amazing food and throwback decor it is an anachronism but very welcome.
Having a place you can eat good potatoes and eggs and have a friendly person endlessly fill your coffee cup is pretty rare and I treasure this place, even if I know they're playing against tough odds.
Enjoy these places while you can and support your local businesses; I can't think of any economic act I can personally make that is less attached to the oligarch induced state of things and I like that. Enjoy your cup of Joe.
